Do you accept insurance?


PPO Insurance:
On average, if your deductible has been met, most PPO insurance plans reimburse around 50% of Shirley's fees. Shirley is happy to provide you with a Superbill so you can submit it to your insurance. There are three examples below to give you an idea of what you could expect.
25-minute Session Example:
You pay Shirley $185 for a 25-minute session.
Your PPO could reimburse you around $85.
Your total Out-Of-Pocket expense would be around $100. 55-minute Session Example:
You pay Shirley $325 for a 55-minute session.
Your PPO could reimburse you around $160.
Your total Out-Of-Pocket expense would be around $165. 85-minute Session Example:
You pay Shirley $400 for a 85-minute session.
Your PPO could reimburse you around $200.
Your total Out-Of-Pocket expense would be around $200.
HMO Insurance:
Shirley is not an employee of any HMO insurance plans so her services are not covered by HMO insurance. This allows Shirley the freedom to select the best services and medications for each individual.




Do you accept Medi-Cal or Medicare?


Shirley does not accept Medi-Cal or Medicare and is considered a "Non-Provider". Medicare and Medi-Cal will not reimburse you for Shirley's fees. Click here to read her policy.




Do you prescribe medication?


Yes. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Shirley legally prescribes medication. Shirley prescribes:

  • antidepressants
  • non-habit-forming anti-anxiety medication
  • non-habit-forming sleep aids
  • non-stimulant medication for ADHD
  • medications to wean off habit-forming meds
Shirley does NOT prescribe:
  • Stimulants for ADHD
  • Mood Stabilizers for Bipolar Disorder




Do you treat Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression)?


No, Shirley does not treat Bipolar Disorder but is happy to refer you to a qualified professional.




How do you process prescription refills?


Refills are handled at the time of each appointment after the effects of medication has been assessed. Please note, that Shirley gives you enough refills until your next appointment so she does not do "Auto-refills" or "FAX-backs" from pharmacies. If you need to reschedule an appointment please make sure to do so before you run out of medicine.




What is your cancellation policy?


Please allow 48 hours for cancellation of an appointment so your time may be used by someone else who may need an appointment, or you will be responsible for the session fee.




Do you treat minors under the age of 18?


Yes, with limitations. Shirley offers coaching and hypnotherapy. Some examples of how she has helped minors is with panic attacks and phobias such as school phobia. Shirley does not prescribe medication for minors.




Where and when are you available?


Shirley is always available via text/SMS. Shirley has a weekday office in Newport Beach and a weekend office in Seal Beach. *Shirley is currently doing all sessions via remote telehealth/telemedicine.




Are you really available on weekends?


Yes! Shirley is availble via text message on weekends.




Can I reach you if I need you?


Yes! Shirley takes her own calls and is available for urgent matters on weekends, holidays and vacations. This is one of the things that makes Shirley a unique practitioner. Texting is the best way to reach Shirley and she also provides phone sessions if needed.




What are your rates?


*Most clients with PPO insurance (who have met their annual deductible) are typically reimbursed for around 50% of Shirley's fees. 15 Minutes - $95 *Offered after initial consultation on an as needed basis. 25 Minutes - $185
*Offered after initial consultation 50 Minutes - $325
E.g. Initial Consultation, Hypnotherapy, Therapy
80 Minutes - $400 E.g. Smoking Cessation Therapy Payment is due at the time of service. The easiest way is through Ivy Pay and this is HIPAA compliant




Do you treat Schizophrenia?


No, Shirley does not treat Schizophrenia but is happy to refer you to a qualified professional.




Do you handle legal/forensic issues?


Shirley does not accompany clients to court nor does she specialize in legal or forensic matters. She is happy to recommend a Forensic Psychiatrist.




What are your hours?


Monday - Friday: 8:30am - 5:30pm *Due to COVID-19 Shirley is now doing ALL her sessions via HIPAA compliant telehealth video sessions and phone sessions.




Do you offer video therapy (telehealth)?


Yes! Shirley offers HIPAA compliant video therapy (telehealth). Shirley uses Doxy.me which is HIPAA compliant so you can feel safe and secure. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shirley is now doing all of her sessions through video telehealth and phone sessions. We will update the website as this changes.




Do you offer phone sessions?


Yes! Shirley offers phone sessions. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shirley is now doing all of her sessions through video telehealth and phone sessions. We will update the website as this changes.




How many sessions will treatment take?


This varies depending on the type and severity of issue(s). Many clients experience benefits within a week or two. The speed and degree of improvement varies and is influenced by each client's commitment and desire for change.




Are you seeing clients in person during COVID-19?


For the time being, Shirley is doing all sessions via remote telehealth/telemedicine. Shirley is obligated to make sure there is minimal risk to the mental, emotional and physical safety of her clients and believes this is currently the best choice for everyone.
